KA1 VET - "Gabrovo" April 2023

In April 2023, the Erasmus+ KA1 VET project brought 18 educators from special education centers in Gabrovo and Plovdiv, Bulgaria, to Italy to engage in a dynamic exchange of knowledge and best practices. This mobility focused on fostering innovative approaches in vocational education and creating inclusive opportunities for students with special educational needs (SEN).

The visit was rich with activities and opportunities for professional growth. One key event took place at the Centro Diurno Brum in Arona, where coordinator Ezia Pernice showcased the center’s impactful projects and daily activities aimed at improving the quality of life for individuals with SEN. The Bulgarian educators were welcomed warmly by local officials, including Mayor Federico Monti and Councillor Monia Mazza, who expressed pride in hosting the delegation and facilitating meaningful cultural exchanges.

A highlight of the mobility was the introduction to Baskin, an inclusive sport that adapts to the abilities of all participants. The educators were deeply inspired by the inclusive philosophy of Baskin, which ensures that everyone, regardless of physical or cognitive challenges, has the opportunity to contribute to their team’s success. Plans were discussed to introduce Baskin in Bulgaria, expanding its reach to create more inclusive recreational activities in their communities.

Additionally, the delegation visited Ristoro Primavera in Meina, a small restaurant where young people with Down syndrome cook and serve meals, exemplifying the power of vocational training to empower individuals with SEN. The educators engaged in a meaningful discussion with parents from the Association of Parents of Down Children and experts from Associazione Luce about the importance of integrating SEN students into real-world work environments. The experience highlighted how providing opportunities to develop professional skills fosters independence and confidence among individuals with SEN.

This project underscored the value of international collaboration in addressing common challenges in inclusive vocational education. By sharing best practices and innovative solutions, the educators from Gabrovo and Plovdiv gained valuable insights to enhance their programs back home. The mobility was a testament to the transformative power of Erasmus+ in promoting inclusivity and lifelong learning for all.
